A plug adapter changes shape only
A plug adapter lets one plug fit a differently shaped outlet. It does not change voltage, frequency, current, or power quality. A device made only for 120V can be damaged if it is connected to a 230V outlet through a simple adapter.
- Read the INPUT line on the power supply.
- A label such as 100–240V, 50/60Hz may indicate broad input compatibility.
- Confirm the exact setup with the manufacturer before use.
Converters and transformers add complexity
A voltage converter or transformer changes voltage, but it must be correctly sized for the device and may not correct frequency. Some medical equipment manufacturers prohibit their use or require specific approved accessories.
